| Cat Bells | ||
| Beside
Derwent water Cat Bells appears a dominating sight yet
although 1481 feet in height it offers a very interesting anti clockwise
walk that is strenuous at the start but very rewarding in the panoramic
views across the Newlands valley towards Bassenthwaite lake with Skiddaw
dominating above Keswick and Derwentwater.The return journey being made
along the shore of Derwent water.The name "cat bells"
may be a modern version of "cat beild" meaning "shelter
of the wild cat"
